WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS WEEK
WEEK OF 10/22 Students are learning about the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the Cardinal Virtues this week. As we discuss how these gifts give us special "powers," just like a superhero, students will ultimately be creating their own "Virtuous Heroes" that will help save the world from evil. WEEK OF 10/15 We have a shortened week, but students are starting a series of lessons focused on their spiritual growth and their relationship with God. This week's focus will be on the three Theological Virtues of faith, hope, and love. WEEK OF 10/8 Students are working on some short skits this week. They are taking different scripture passages and giving them a more modern twist. The focus is on how people in the passages are examples of "self gift." WEEK OF 10/1 Students are looking at the importance of family and the "gift of self" this week. On Wednesday students are taking a survey issued by the publisher of our new religion textbook series. It will be taken three times this year (beginning, middle, and end). The majority of survey is opinion questions about the individual student's perception of their Catholic faith. Another portion of it asks some basic content questions about Church history and doctrine. It is NOT a graded test - it simply gives the publisher some data points to direct their instruction in the future. WEEK OF 9/24 This week we talking about emotional and intellectual growth through the three faculties of the soul: the intellect, the will, and the capacity to love. We'll apply these faculties to the development of our conscience and moral decision-making. Father George, the 7th grade partner priest, will be visiting us on Tuesday to answer questions from students about their faith. WEEK OF 9/17 This week students are discussing the "roadmap to happiness." It gives us an opportunity to reflect on the material things in this world that make us happy, but with the understanding that those are only temporary. To help with this concept, students will be reading about the lives of several saints to compare the saint's path to happiness with their own. WEEK OF 9/10 Students are continuing their unit on human dignity and communion with God. This week's focus is on the Holy Trinity and how that's a reflection of just how God wants us to be connected to others. WEEK OF 9/3 We're finishing up our lesson on personal vocation as students explore the lives of a few of the younger saints in Church history. Later in the week we'll continue with our unit on personal growth as we discuss the points that each human has dignity and that we are made to be in communion with others. This all stems from the overall point that we're made in the image and likeness of God, who is a communion of three. WEEK OF 8/27 Students are examining some religious artwork as an introduction to our "Spirit of Truth" programs, and specifically, the idea of one's vocation in this world. The emphasis is that we are all called to do different things in life, but still in the service of God. |
